General Processing Advice Synthetic materials [C]

PDF/Print

Ground
During processing the ground must always be clean and dry and furthermore must be freed of dirt, grease, dust, oil, cement skin and loose parts.
The mineral ground should be 28 days old at the minimum and the moisture in the concrete constructions must not exceed 4%.  Metal surfaces must be free of rust in conformity with SA 2½. Oil and grease must be removed with a degreasant or emulgator, never degrease with dilutants. In order to obtain the proper ground conditions the following measures can be taken: blasting, thermic blasting, brushing, etching with phosphorous acid, drying with hot air or infrared lights.

Processing time (Potlife)
The processing time depends on the temperature and quantities. In cases of high temperature or large quantities, the processing time of the material will diminish.

Mixing
The packages delivered are pre-dosed, so that the entire contents must be used. First mix up component A and add B component to component A. Mix at least 2 minutes this aggregate until a mixture homogeneous in mass and colour is obtained. Then add component C in case this is delivered and mix with a low rpm until a homogeneous mass is produced.  A non-homogeneous mass will result in uneven setting which causes soft spots in the end-product. Mixing of synthetics can be done manually (trowel, palette knife, filling knife) or mechanically (plaster mixer for electric drilling machine, forced mixer).

Preliminary treatment
In order to obtain optimum adhesion it may sometimes be necessary to apply adhesive primer BETOCHEM 205 or BETOCHEM 206 adhesive. The consecutive product is to be applied by means of the wet-in-wet system.

Application
The products must only be applied at relative atmospheric humidities below 85% and the temperature of the ground and surrounding temperatures above 10ºC, while the temperature of the ground to be treated must be 3ºC above dewpoint temperature (for the exact temperature refer to product sheet).
The system applied can only be (chemically) strained after this system has hardened sufficiently; this equals a drying period of approximately 7 days at 20ºC.

Tools
In order to obtain good finishing the tools to be used should be made of steel or special synthetic material. Cleaning them can be done with a suitable solvent. (BETOCHEM brush- or spray dilutant EP) before the product has hardened through. For fluid products, use paint roller or brush. For trowel materials use a filling knife, float, brick jointer etc. For tools to be applied refer to the product sheets concerned.

Industrial hygiene
During processing gloves, safety goggles, suitable foot wear, aprons etc. must be worn. It is also recommended to use protective creams: rub your hands with cream before you start processing. If by accident material is splashed into the eyes, rinse immediately with ample water and consult a physician as soon as possible. Refer to the directions on the packaging and safety sheets!
